And ever onwards with the juicing.Thursday 11th October, 2007

This morning was a pretty lazy start to the day. Ulli had to drive Johann into Kiel for a physio appointment (since he snapped the main ligament in his knee playing a family vs family game of soccer 8 weeks ago). Mama and Papa went to the cellar to carry on with the juice and I stayed at home because the upholsterer was coming to carry on working on a sofa that's being restored - important stuff.

After Ulli and Johann were back though, Ulli and I went in to carry on helping out. So far we've made about 280 bottles of juice. I will be very glad of the weekend break - but Monday we will be back into it, and hard, to see if we can't finish it off. Though the Cox-Oranges are done with now, and we have another type of apple to play with (can't remember it's name though, right now).

We went out for dinner tonight. Papa's big surprise. He told us to put on our glad rags and be at his car at 6.15pm. Turned out we hit the local restaurant for dinner - his shout, because he has just been promoted at work. He's now a Haupt-Kommisar (if I understood it right) - but I don't know what that rank is in our system. He was and Ober-Kommisar which translates to over inspecter. I will have to remember to ask him what his corresponding English rank is - he's bound to know since he's a member of the IPA (International Police Association).

Our biggest worry is that from 2am tomorrow morning a lot of the train drivers will be on strike until midnight - so we might not even get to Leer, as it stands right now. We've decided to get to the station and hour early and if the earlier train comes in, we'll jump on it. It's the regional trains that will be affected, so once we get to Hamburg, we will get to Bremen and at some point in the afternoon, one train will go from Bremen to Leer - of that we are quite confident. It will be interesting to see what trains do arrive tomorrow.
